The meaning that adults have in biology means an animal capable of reproducing. For humans adults have implications that are based on social and legal concepts. Legal adults and not "minors" or non-adults are those who are of the majority age and thus considered to be independent, responsible as well as self-sufficient. Also known as "majors", they can also be considered as having reached the age of majority. The typical age of attaining the legal age of adulthood is 18 however, definitions can differ based on legal rights, country and the level of development in psychological terms.

Adulthood is the time in the human lifespan when an individual has reached maturity in terms of both physical and mental development. The age of adulthood typically begins with the age of 21. It is around 60 years after middle years. As we grow older, there are three distinct phases The first is early adulthood (18-30 years) middle adulthood (30-60 year olds) and Late adulthood (60%-60 60%). At the beginning stage of adulthood (between 20 and 40) the bodies of our children are at their peak of maturity even though our height and weight may rise slightly. During young adulthood we reach the highest level of physical capabilities.
